History of a music video (Miss Georgiou)

A music video or song video is a short video integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. As a result of this music videos now play a crucial part in the popularity and hype that surrounds a song. They do this by promoting and allowing the audience to connect a face to the song which in turn helps promote the artist and allows the audience to create a relationship between themselves and the artist. This helps as a marketing device for the artist increasing the popularity and overall chart success of a song as a catchy music video can expand an artists fan base. As well as this music videos also create a visual to the song. This allows the artist to creatively make a concept surrounding the song and reinforce the message from the lyrics. This benefits the audience as it provides them with more entertainment as it allows them to enjoy the song for its lyric and through its narrative played out on screen. 
Although music is as popular as ever with many artist having an abundance of die hard fans who idolise them, the popularity of radios declined within houses when creations such as MTV and more currently youtube proved extremely popular as it became apparent that there was a demand and desire to watch a song and its video as well as listening to the song. 

Although the use of music videos dates back further where they were referred to as 'film clips' or just 'promotional videos' MTV are seen to have pioneered the music video when they made them much more prominent on the music scene in the 1980's. Currently however as a result of social media sights such as youtube artist have been able to promote their music more then ever as through being able to be seen world wide the importance of a music video has heightened in creating a successful song. The invention and popularity of the social media form has also helped create and promote artists from youtube stars to global phenomena's such as music star Justin Bieber. Through being discovered and created by his fans has heightened Justin's success as the viewers note he is self created making him admirable and they played part in his success giving them a relationship and a complicit role in his success.
